The game of sustainable Baseball
今年のメジャーリーグも終わりましたね。
ワールドシリーズでの日本人の活躍もあり、
面白いシーズンだったと思います。
レッドソックスの優勝は個人的には嬉しくないですが。。。
ところで、野球をグリーンにするにはどうしたらよいでしょう？
まずはスタジアムをエコにすることですよね。
問題は主に以下の３点。
１．ナイトゲームで電気を使いすぎる。照明やスコアボードなど。
２．食べ物のごみが多すぎる
３．車の渋滞を起こす。
サンフランシスコAT＆Tパークの例を紹介したいと思います。
このスタジアムに設置された590のソーラーパネルは、
120キロワットの電気を作り出し、
この電気は2009年～2010年にはPG&Gの顧客に供給されます。
AT&Tパークは蛍光灯やモーションセンサー付きの明り、
エネルギー管理システムなどを導入するなど、
省エネを意識して作られています。
今年設置されたスコアボードは以前のものに比べて
78%のエネルギーカットに成功。
また、サンフランシスコジャイアンツはメジャーの中で
最初にワイヤレスインターネット環境をスタジアムに取り入れいています。
PG&Eとジャイアンツは共同で、ファンを対象にした
5年間の省エネ教育とキャンペーンを打ち出しています。

The Major League baseball season is over, and I am glad that Japanese players were able to participate in the games of World Series. I was not pleasant with the results of Red Sox crowning the series (I am Padres fanatic).
Ever imagined eco friendly baseball?
So, how can baseball be eco friendly?
Lets start with greening the stadium! More grass in the infield? Umm not yet!
Three things we must overcome to green the baseball stadium.
1. Stadium uses mass of energy in the night games, lights and scoreboard are biggest energy users.
2. produces mass of food and paper wastes. People love the game, but leaves masses of wastes behind them.
3. Produces Car traffic. People wants to get in quick or get out of park quickly.
Beginning of 2007 season, two teams from national league stood up and started to act on greening the stadium
San Francisco AT & T Park.
San Francisco AT&T Park has placed 590 solar panels outside of the stadium in April of this year.
It is estimated that AT&T park will produce 120 kilowatts of energy for PG &E customers in the city of San Francisco. The generated electricity will be connected into San Francisco’s power grid and it will show up at homes between 2009 or 2010.
And:
AT&T Park was designed to save energy from the start by using fluorescent lighting, motion sensor lighting and energy management systems. The new scoreboard this year is said to use 78 percent less energy than the old scoreboard. The Giants were also the first Major League team to bring wireless internet to the ballpark. In addition, PG&E and the Giants are starting a five-year public awareness campaign to educate and encourage Giants fans to use energy responsibly. (MLB.com (San Francisco Giants))

この前友人が面白い情報を送ってくれました。
「マイ箸キープ」のお店です。
ボトルキープはよくありますが、
マイ箸キープは初めて聞きました。
確かに、私の周りでもマイ箸をお店に忘れたことがある
という人は結構います（かくいう自分も・・・）。
面白いサービスですよね。
私が行ったことがある箸文化を持つ国で、
割り箸を使っていたのは日本と中国だけでした。
韓国は銀製の箸。ベトナムやタイは木の箸。

A friend of mine told me an interesting story.

but I've never heard of "Give Away Chopstick" service.
I think it's quite nice, because many people tend to forget tobring their chopsticks to reduce wastes from the restaurant..
Only Japan and China use diposal chopsticks （don’t count those Japanese restaurants in foreign countries..
Korea reusabale and washable silver chopsticks.
Thailand and Vietnam use wooden chopsticks, and uses it many times.

もうすぐ北米とヨーロッパで発売される"Sim City Societies"に、
気候変動教育の要素が盛り込まれるそうです。
エネルギー大手のBPと協力して実現したこのアイデア。
現実世界と同様、低価格で大量生産されている建物は
CO2の最大排出者として設定されており、
一定以上CO2の濃度が上がると干ばつや熱波などの
自然災害にみまわれてしまいます。
プレイヤーは用意されている選択肢の中から、
水素エネルギーや風力・ソーラー発電などを選ぶことによって、
持続可能な発展をしていくことができるのです。
「日々の小さな選択が世界に大きな影響を与える」
現実社会ではなかなか実感できない温暖化の問題も、
Sim Cityを通じてならリアルに感じられるかもしれませんね。
