I am in love with Patagonia!

私が大好きなアウトドアブランド、パタゴニアが
新しい取り組みを始めています。
パタゴニアは以前、廃棄物から生まれた再生ナイロン繊維を
36％使用したパンツを作っていました。
今回「東レ」と新たに技術協力することで、
バージンナイロン生産に比べて15%エネルギーを
削減することに成功しています。
パタゴニアのサイトで見ることができる
"Footprint Chronicle"もすごいです。
なんと、その製品がどこでどのように生産・調達され、
トータルでどれだけのエネルギーが使用され、
CO2・廃棄物が排出されたかが一目でわかります。
更にその製品の良い点と悪い点、
社としてどのように考えているかを正直に伝え、
顧客からもフィードバックを得られる仕組みになっています。
ビジュアル的にも素晴らしい。
もし全ての商品の足跡を辿れるようになれば、
消費者の意識も大きく変わることでしょう。

Finally, recycled nylon fabrics are coming to outdoor market. Previously, giant fabric maker from Japan “Toray” has invented fabric line for outdoor clothing. And Patagonia is coming with ecologically friendly product with help from Toray technology. Previously Patagonia offered a pants with 36% post-industrial recycled nylon which was waste product. But now, with an addition of Toray’s recyclon , it is expected to save 15% of energy that normally used when created from virgin nylon.
Additionally, Patagonia has added “Footprint Chronicle” in their website.
It is amazing! You can actually track each product’s footprint and see whats good and bad about it. This footprint chronicle has data of how much product traveled, CO2 emmitted, waste generated, and energy consumed while its production.
I would like to see major companies locating footprints on their products. If consumers are able to trace footprints on their purchasing products, the value of consumers will change within few years.
