We at EcoNetworks support Sado City, Niigata Prefecture, to prepare a summary paper and powerpoint materials in English required for the final presentation to the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at the International Forum on Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) with theme “Dialogue among Agricultural Civilizations” in Xiedao (Crab Island), Beijing, from June 9 to 12, 2011.

On June 11, 2010 FAO added the farming methods of Sado and Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto Peninsula to the list of the GIAHS.

In response to Northeastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

First of all, we lament deeply the damages caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Northeastern Japan happening since March 11, 2011. Our hearts go out to those who passed away, to those who have lost loved ones and to all those who suffer from the catastrophe.

Due to these devastating disasters in Japan, let us inform you that we set one week from March 14 to 18 as an “emergency response week.” We now set our priority on securing safety and supporting those who are suffering in damaged areas, except for urgent projects.

We will keep working with less electricity and fuel while making good use of solar energy and other renewable energy, hoping that necessary energy will be saved for those who need them.

At home, I reviewed my use of electricity, gas, water, and fuel from scratch at this time, and found solar cookers are very useful.

We are praying for you, your family, your colleagues and friends in safe and peace. We believe we can protect what we should, and create our future together.

We sincerely appreciate your kindest understanding and cooperation.
